The Salvation Army & Midwest Food Bank
During a natural disaster, caring people, nonprofit organizations, and companies must come together to help those affected.
At PSI, we are proud to help The Salvation Army and Midwest Food Bank provide relief to survivors of the recent hurricanes in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Texas, as well as to those affected by flooding in Illinois over the summer.
“When a disaster strikes, many people are left without basic needs like food, water, and shelter. Thankfully, relief organizations such as The Salvation Army and Midwest Food Bank are ready to step in and help at a moment’s notice. But they can’t do it alone.”
A key part of these organizations’ disaster relief operations involves feeding survivors. To do that effectively, they need to be able to transport large amounts of food quickly and efficiently.
That’s where PSI comes in.
To aid The Salvation Army’s joint relief efforts with the Midwest Food Bank, we produced more than 46,000 co-branded boxes in which they could pack and ship food. Each box contains enough shelf-stable food to feed a family of five for several days.
Over the summer, The Salvation Army joined with several other organizations to offer support services to nearly 1,000 families in Lake County, Illinois, that were affected by flooding. The Salvation Army not only coordinated in-kind donations, but it also helped flood survivors select needed items including food boxes, personal hygiene kits, bottled water, and more.
In late August, The Salvation Army shipped nearly 900 food boxes to Texas to aid survivors of Hurricane Harvey.
A month later, The Salvation Army was on the ground in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands helping survivors of Hurricane Maria. On the island of St. Thomas alone, the organization provided 1,800 boxes of meals—which equaled 21,612 meals for over 7,200 survivors in need.
Each year, The Salvation Army serves more than 1 million Americans in dozens of disaster responses nationwide. Midwest Food Bank and The Salvation Army have been partners in disaster relief since 2005.
We’re so proud to support these two wonderful organizations. Together, we truly can make a difference.
